As We Know It
Chapter 8Isaac sat quietly and tried his hardest not to make eye contact with the odd guy that had stopped into the studio that afternoon. He didn't know why the guy made him uneasy; after the kind of run ins he'd had in this town, he wasn't the weirdest person Isaac had seen all day. He wasn't even the weirdest person that he'd ever seen Taylor with, which was a plus.
The man did not appear to be feeling the same awkward strain that Isaac was feeling, however, and sat up straight at the table, brightly examining everything around him, as though everything was new to him.
"So..." Isaac said, in any attempt to try and break the silence. "You're really into music then, huh?"
"Oh, not really," Micah said, without a hint of irony. "It's just that it seems to be the only thing Taylor thinks about, so I have to be interested in it. It's all part of the package, I suppose." Micah sighed.
"How do you and Taylor know one another?"
"Oh, we're very..." Micah paused to think. "We're very good friends."
"Friends, huh." Isaac said with a raised eyebrow, taking in Micah's appearance once again, notably the prim and put together way he held himself. "Yeah, I figured as much."
There was another brief interval of silence, so Isaac cleared his throat again, attempting to continue.
"Where did you guys meet?"
"Oh, we officially met in a diner nearby, but I'd been watching him for ages before that. Of course it was destiny that ultimately brought us together."
"That's... great. I'm happy for you guys, I guess."
Micah beamed at him cheerfully.
"Taylor gets this way, I wouldn't take it personally or anything."
"Oh, I know. He has a lot of pressure on him right now, what with everything depending on him and all."
"Well, I mean, we're all really actively involved with everything, it's more of an equal parts thing," Isaac said, a tinge of defensiveness creeping into his voice.
"Of course it is," Micah said in a comforting tone. Isaac took a drink of coffee and sighed to himself.
That solo thing was sounding better and better every time he thought about it.
