11. Family TiesA short time later, Nikki was pulling into the motel, parking in front of the motel door that she had rented the previous day. She helped Jenifer out of the car and took her hand as they walked up to Zac’s door and knocked.
A few moments later Zac opened the door. Grinning as he saw Jenifer. Jacob turned and saw his sister at the same time.
“Jenny!” Jacob yelled out as Jenifer responded with “Jacob!” as she pulled away from Nikki’s hold and ran to hug her brother.
Zac watched their display before he turned back to Nikki.
“Thanks for bringing her to me, Doll.” he grinned.
“Your welcome. It was a little tough getting her out of there though.” Nikki shifted uneasily.
“Why? What’s going on?” Zac tensed up, a scowl now on his face.
“The school has FBI agents all over it and I was stopped by one on my way off school property, he was ready to search my car until he was called inside. No doubt they noticed Jenifer missing.” Nikki explained.
Zac turned quickly to the kids.
“Come on guys, we’re going for a ride.” he spoke in urgency. Jacob jumped off the bed, Jenifer followed as he took her hand and lead her out the door.
Zac closed the motel door and headed for his rental car to let the kids inside, but Nikki stopped him before he could get to the back door.
“Let me go with you.” Nikki asked.
“No! I have enough with these two. You will just slow me down.” Zac growled.
“I won’t baby, I promise. I can help you with the kids. If we have to run or something, you can take one while I carry the other one.” Nikki suggested, hoping Zac would buy into it.
Zac thought for a moment, until Nikki offered one more deal breaker.
“And I have a car that isn’t currently on the FBI’s most wanted list.” Nikki said as she gestured to Zac’s rental car.
“Good point” Zac affirmed as he nodded, opening up the backseat of the car and getting Jacob’s backpack and a duffle bag from the trunk before he walked over and opened up the backseat of Nikki’s car and throwing the bags inside. He then turned to the twins and gestured as he spoke,
“Ok guys, get in the car.”
Jacob climbed into the back seat with Jenifer following a moment later, both immediately buckling themselves in.
Zac smiled when he saw his kids sitting in that backseat, patiently looking up at him with his own eyes. They were about to be in his custody, hopefully forever if he could keep them hidden long enough.
Nikki snapped him out of his proud Father moment.
“Baby, we’d better get going.” Nikki said as she climbed into the passenger seat, Zac following a moment later into the drivers seat.

They had been driving for a little over an hour when Zac pulled into a drive thru fast food place and ordered lunch. Then they drove to a State Park called Evergreens that Zac had seen on a sign while he was driving. Zac parked near the bathrooms just in case one of the kids had to go. Nikki began handing out the food as Zac turned towards the backseat to face his kids, wanting to watch them interacting with each other and so he could talk to them and explain to Jenifer that he was her Daddy, just as he had done with Jacob the day before.
Jenifer sat quietly in the back seat staring at her food. Zac noticed and said,
“Jenny, what’s wrong? Don’t you like your burger?”
Jenifer looked up at Zac and said,
“Are you the sperm donor?”
Zac’s eyes got wide, then flashed to red for a moment at Jenifer’s sudden statement.
In hearing that Nikki choked on her cheeseburger, coughed and was able to make it go down the right pipe before she let out a slight laugh. Zac turned to Nikki and gave her a deep scowl, Nikki’s smile quickly faded. Then Zac turned back to address his daughter.
“Where did you hear that?”
“Mommy said that Jake was with the sperm donor and since Jake is with you and you’re a man who helps make babies. So, that would make you the sperm donor Mommy was talking about.” Jenifer explained.
Jacob spoke up as soon as his sister was done talking.
“He’s our Daddy.” Jacob said pointing to Zac.
Jenifer looked at her brother rather confused. “But Mommy said that our Daddy’s an angel in heaven.”
“I know, but he’s really our Daddy. He proved it to me, by showing me a picture from his wallet that looks like me and Andy, but Daddy said it was him and Andy’s Daddy, they’re brothers.” Jacob explained.
“Can I see the picture, Mr. Sperm Donor?” Jenifer asked politely as Nikki let out a small chuckle, she couldn’t help it. The term that Jenifer kept calling Zac was really funny and she couldn’t help but laugh. Zac turned and shot her yet another dirty look as he pulled out his wallet from his back pocket, he pulled out the picture and held it in front of Jenifer so she could see. Her eyes got wide.
“Whoa, that looks like me and Andy but I have shorter hair.” Jenifer exclaimed in awe.
“Told you he’s our Daddy.” Jacob reminded his sister, which got her thinking and then she began to question Zac.
“If your our Daddy, then where are your angel wings?”
Zac rolled his eyes, knowing that she had to be like Jacob and was about to ask twenty questions. He prepared himself to be annoyed with her line of questioning, just as her brother had done to him yesterday.
“I took them off so I could drive the car.” Zac replied.
“Is this heaven?”
“No.”
“Did you take Jake to visit heaven last night? Mommy said you did.”
“No, we didn’t go to heaven. We stayed right here in town at a motel last night.”
“You took Jake yesterday from school - why didn’t you take me too?”
“I don’t know. I guess I just wanted to spend some time alone with Jake.” Zac shrugged.
“You didn’t take me yesterday because you don’t care about me.” Jenifer spoke boldly giving her Father the same hardened stare he was showing her just then.
“Who told you that I don’t care? Did your Mommy tell you that I don‘t care about you?” Zac said starting to get upset.
“Nobody did. I figured it out for myself yesterday when you didn’t take me with you and Jake.”
“I do care about you baby girl. Daddy doesn’t want you to think otherwise. Understand?”
Jenifer nodded as Zac turned around to drive.
“Mr. Sperm Don-” Jenifer began to say before Zac turned around quickly.
“Daddy!” he growled in anger which caused Jenifer to slink back in fear, her eyes wide.
“Zac, don’t scare them. Speak to her calmly. They’re still not used to you.” Nikki spoke softly as she rubbed Zac’s upper thigh.
Zac looked over at Nikki, his eyes going soft in realization before looking into the backseat at his daughter’s fearful expression.
“Call me Daddy, ok Princess?” then Zac smiled hoping to lighten the mood.
“I’m not a Princess.” Jenifer said giving Zac a funny look.
“You are baby girl. You are Daddy’s Princess now.”
“Then what’s Jake?” Jenifer asked still confused.
“Daddy’s buddy. You both are very special to me and I’m going to be taking care of both of you from now on.” Zac affirmed.
“What about Mommy?” Jenifer asked but Jacob was quick to speak.
“I think this lady is our Mommy now.”
“The lady from the office at school is Mommy now?” Jenifer looked at Jacob incredulously.
“Yeah, they were in the bathroom this morning shutting the water off, it was really noisy in there.” Jacob shrugged. “I guess the faucet wasn‘t cooperating.”
Zac looked at his son, wide-eyed.
“Jake, I think that’s enough ok?”
“Besides, I think she’s Daddy’s girlfriend.” Jacob added.
“Jacob!” Zac chastised giving his son a hard look. “She’s not my girlfriend!”
“But what about-”Jenifer began to say but Zac was quick to cut her off.
“Jenny, Jake. It’s quite time now. We’ll talk more later. Now listen to the music on the radio.” Zac chastised as he started the car then flipped on the radio.
Nikki spoke up.
“Maybe it’s a good idea if we stayed here for awhile, let the kids play and we’ll travel at night. It’s probably safer.”
“Yeah,” Zac replied before he shut the car off, then turned to the kids and said, “Go out and play for awhile. Don‘t go too far from the car.”
The kids nodded and unbuckled themselves and exited the car.
Zac sat behind the wheel, keeping a watchful eye on the twins as Nikki moved closer to Zac, putting her head on his shoulder.
“They are two great kids. I wish they were ours.” Nikki whispered.
“They have a Mother.” Zac reminded her, not taking his eyes off the kids as they played a few feet from the car.
“I know, I just wish I was their Mom and we could be a family.” Nikki sighed.
“Don’t start that again! We’re never going to be a family and to be honest, I only want you for sex and you knew that. So, right about now you could make that mouth useful for something other than talking and suck my dick.” Zac scowled as he pushed her head down towards his lap.
Nikki frowned remembering her offer to him, but inside she ached. Only wishing that Zac would change his mind and try being a couple with her.
