I’ll admit, I wasn’t overly impressed with the first story in this trilogy. Julie did have a few interesting ideas, though, ones that I hope to see explored in more detail here, since Reverse Obsession ends right as Isaac and Kate’s relationship begins.
To my surprise, the story begins a few years later, and quickly reveals that Ike and Kate’s relationship fizzled out and remained a deep friendship. That and the (unfulfilled) predictions about Hanson’s future career are a bit disappointing, and the quick, unmarked changes in point of view (including even Walker and Diana’s perspective) make my head spin. It’s not an especially promising beginning, and not at all what I hoped for.
Much like Reverse Obsession, Julie has some interesting ideas here that she doesn’t fully explore. The romantic tension is much stronger here than before, though, even if several of the characters are very immature for their ages. Between that, the constant point of view changes and the sloppy writing, I have to say that the first story in this trilogy was better than The Dance and I don’t have high hopes for the third.
