The structure of this story really appeals to me; each chapter covers one day out of a week, and the title is a reference to just how much can happen in that expanse of time. It’s a great setup and a way to pack a lot into a fairly short story. Unfortunately, the execution isn’t nearly as great as the setup, and A Lot of Things Can Happen falls pretty flat for me.
The basic premise is fairly cliche but standard for early hanfic–two girls wind up the lucky chosen ones who get to go backstage. A weird, contrived twist of fate leaves them stuck in Hanson’s life for the following week, and in that time–you guessed it–a lot happens. The basic love triangle plot isn’t so bad, even if I have read it a dozen times before.
Where Christa’s writing really suffers, though, is in the technical aspects. There are tons of grammatical errors, misspellings and strange metaphors. She stumbles upon a good turn of phrase every now and then, but those are few and far between. Still, I did enjoy Christa and Taylor’s sexually-charged love story, even if i had to wade through a lot of poor writing to get to it.
