Interwoven was a reread I have been doing for the past few months and it is also the sequel to Cause and Effect which I reread last year. I must say before I begin this review that I really just love this series.
Interwoven picks up right after a short story that takes place between it and Cause and Effect. A short story in which Zac found out about Spencer’s abortion in Cause and this time it was Zac who walked out.
It was nice to see how Spencer and Zac both went about seeing each other again as Spencer has just moved to Tulsa in Interwoven and of course their first sighting of each other is unexpected though I think things with them are always a bit unexpected, it’s a part of their charm.
After their first meeting things just tend to spiral from there and they can’t seem to stay out of each other’s orbit but of course things never come easy for them and they have to deal with Zac’s family as well as his fans because they now seem to have a stalker who seems intent to tear them apart.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about the stalker aspect but in the end I liked the way Bethany did it and it gave it a sense of realism though between the final showdown with the stalker there is a bit of a lull that I wish had more stalker stuff included but I guess Zac and Spencer did deserve some happiness during that time.
The story ends not long after the stalker reveal (a reveal I wasn’t expecting the first time around) and I like how it ends on an optimistic note, an ending that carried over into another short story.
I definitely think this is one of Bethany’s strongest pieces to date and I would say read it as well as the drabbles that she has done from this universe too. You really won’t regret it and it’s a good way to waste some time when bored.
