If there are two things Jezebel T. Jordan is known for, they’re her steamy erotica and her badass female characters. While the former definitely shows up in Jaded, she has a few too many female characters to keep straight and only one of them (not even the semi-titular character) really qualifies as a badass.
One would assume that, with the fic being called Jaded, the character named Jade would be the primary one. In fact, her slow burning romance with Isaac (while we wait for her to discover that her boyfriend is cheating on her–a fact literally everyone else knows) is much more of a sideplot. Still, it’s sweet and compelling enough with a good payoff.
Instead, Taylor and Jamie (or Jaimie or Jameson–I’m so confused) take center stage with their hot and heavy love affair. Jezebel set the stage for a love triangle with Jamie, Taylor and Zac, but sadly Zac’s jealous, angry crush faded away and he himself faded into the background. Then the focus is entirely on Jamie’s stubborn refusal to admit she’s in love with Taylor. Her stubborn badass routine is grating, and the resolution that comes after a random reunion with Johnny Rzeznik and a motorcycle accident is a big relief.
While her smut is as hot as ever, in spite of her formatting issues, I think Jezebel missed a big opportunity to make this fic even steamier and create some real drama that didn’t just center around the invented problems of a hardheaded character.
