All I thought I knew going into this story was that it was hosted by Jill, who only hosted the best. It turns out, I had read a little review of To Make Me Who I Am once upon a time, so I wasn’t surprised to see that Zac died in the prologue.
…Or did he? There are short scenes about a “mystery man” who is eventually spotted by Taylor and whose appearance shakes Taylor to the core. Initially, I thought he was Zac, and that Zac had faked his death. Taylor seemed to be of the opinion that this stranger had Zac’s soul. Which is the truth… well, I’ll let you read the story and see. It would be too big of a spoiler to tell you and unravel the mystery that Melissa has set up.
There are actually several mysteries here and a few plot threads that don’t really seem to go anywhere. The big reveal doesn’t come off as big as I think Melissa intended, but it’s still a fairly touching story. The latter chapters seem to pass by quickly, leaving me a little unsatisfied at the end. There are also a few awkward turns of phrase that keep To Make Me Who I Am from entirely making sense. Maybe some of that is just me and maybe it isn’t. It’s hard to say. Either way, it isn’t a bad story at all but it isn’t quite everything I expected it to be.
