Sweet Serenity

by Katie (link)

Genre het, romance
Pairings Isaac/OFC
Length 16 chapters and epilogue
Status Completed

Given that I wasn’t all that impressed with Three Days, I really hoped that Sweet Serenity would add more believable depth to Ike and Gwen’s story. If it doesn’t, there frankly isn’t much point to it existing as a sequel.

Katie did attempt to add a little more depth to this sequel, but it happens pretty unsurprisingly. What is the most common problem to plague Hanson’s relationships? Jealousy and fame, of course. Isaac and Gwen are no exception to these problems, and although it is pretty typical, Katie does a decent job of showing Gwen’s insecurity and uncertainty about whether a relationship with Ike can really work.

Of course, it does work, because this was never meant to be anything but a romance. All the cheese of the original story remains, although fleshed out just enough to feel a bit more believable here. Katie’s writing is somewhat stronger, although plagued by a few annoying typos and misspellings. The dialogue is still exceedingly cheesy, which takes away from the depth and realism needed to make Sweet Serenity better than its predecessor. While I do enjoy it more than Three Days, that isn’t saying much.
