There are a few things that cause me to immediately judge a story. One is authors using archives that aren’t frequently visited by fansons, which I’ve discussed in another review. Another is authors who use Hanson songs as story titles. It may be an unfair judgment, but I can’t help it.

Avalon herself states that the beginning is crappy, and I’m afraid I have to agree. The writing is sloppy, the plot fairly typical (female best friend who Taylor falls for) and there are a few little–or not so little–details that just don’t jive with how Hanson’s career and lives were actually going in the year 2002, when the story is set. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, the main character’s name is very, very similar to the author’s.

I wish I could say that it actually does get better from that point on, but it really doesn’t. The writing remains sloppy to the point of being nearly incomprehensible at times. Sometimes I even need to read sentences more than one to be sure what Avalon means to say. When she starts using Hanson lyrics in the dialogue, and not even in an ironic way, I lose all hope of connecting with the characters or the story.

Although I love stories that deal with Taylor and Natalie’s shotgun wedding, as Thinkin’ Bout Something does, there’s little to nothing here that I can recommend. The writing is sloppy, the dialogue and emotions unbelievable and the plot eye-rollingly poorly developed.
