There’s a good chance that I read this story years ago; I remember loving Sunnie’s writing, and of course I had a major thing for any stories that featured the pairing known as “Scottay.” ‘Cause You’re A God isn’t a Devil Angel spinoff, like many Scottay fics were, and hopefully it stands on its own, despite being incomplete.
The setup is what I’ve come to realize is the standard for most Scottay stories: Hanson and the Moffatts are part of the lineup for the same festival and Scott is quickly blown away by Taylor. Well, aren’t we all? He has moments of snark that I love, but Sunnie’s writing also veers into some seriously flowery territory that I just can’t believe coming from Scott Fucking Moffatt.
The sexual tension, too, is a little bit unbelievable, if incredibly hot. But it all just happens too soon and too easily. Give me a little more drama, a little more conflicted feelings over being attracted to another guy. Eventually, Sunnie delivered the drama, but still managed to make Scott sound too girly.
None of the characters in ‘Cause You’re A God feel all that well developed, really, which makes the fast pace of the story that much harder to swallow. When blackmail and drugs get involved, I really start to roll my eyes. Still, there are some hot sex scenes and not-quite-sex-scenes that keep the sexual tension at a high. That tension makes up the majority of what the story has going for it, given the poor character development, sometimes breakneck point of view changes and occasional grammar mistakes. It may not be a perfect, or complete, story but ‘Cause You’re A God does cover a lot of familiar Scottay ground in a fairly unique way.
