I was hesitant to read this story because, although it is finished, it hasn’t been entirely published online. But I’ve heard plenty of people praise it’s Freaky Friday premise, so I had to give it a try. The You In You doesn’t quite live up to my expectations for it, but it’s still a good, if unfinished read.
The first few chapters, before Taylor and Abby switch bodies, are tough to slog through. The writing is a little overly pretentious and I really don’t care for over the top portrayals of rich high school students. Maybe somewhere in the world (Tulsa, Oklahoma?) high school students act like that, but they certainly didn’t where I grew up.
In spite of that, the story gets more and more readable after Taylor and Abby switch. That’s when it becomes hilarious, complete with periods and unwanted boners. Zac, the one person who knows the truth, is a great secondary character and adds even more comedy. I’m less interested in the poor little rich girl Taylor has a desperate crush on, but she grows on me a bit as the story goes on.
Of course, the biggest flaw of The You In You is that it was never posted in full. What is posted is a pretty good story, although some chapters do drag on a bit. If you can get through the beginning, you’re in for some comedy gold with more than a few nods to the fandom, hanfic and even a few incest jokes (which are always a plus in my book).
