Presented as something of a series of oneshots, Cat O’Nine Tales is really one big story of drama, erotica and just the tiniest hint of romance. The erotica is where it excels, if you ask me, with the rest of the plot not quite working for me.

It may not be entirely accurate to describe the story as cest, but it does begin with Zac and Taylor being set up with a Dominatrix by a friend, which leads to a very… interesting… sexual encounter for the three of them. It’s a strange plot, but a hot scene that would have worked just as well as a oneshot than as the beginning to a longer story.

But it is a longer story. Although there are still plenty of other hot sex scenes, the story falls into fairly typical love triangle territory. I’ve found that so many love triangles play out the same way–it’s inevitable that girl will end up with Taylor even though she has better chemistry with Zac and even fools around with Isaac at one point. I find myself just pissed off that Zac never has a real chance, even if I wish that chance was with a girl who deserved him more than Cat.

Even if it is well trodden territory, Trixie writes it well enough. What I’m most offended by here are the unlikable female characters. Cat’s feelings are always unclear to me, even after she enters into something of a real relationship with Taylor so they can raise their baby together. The other female characters, including an aging madame and a ridiculous, inaccurate stereotype from Kentucky, are even more offensive and unbelievable. While I might have enjoyed the love triangle and the smut, those characters and side stories, plus the occasionally less than polished writing, leave a sour taste in my mouth–one which isn’t helped by the fact that the story is incomplete.
