Where I Belong

by Becca and Nat (link)

Genre het, romance, drama
Pairings Taylor/OFC, Zac/OFC
Length 18 chapters
Status Unfinished

I didn’t really see a lot of space for Becca and Nat to expand upon the story they started with Standing in the Shadows, so I am curious to see if Where I Belong adds much of interest. Since it was left unfinished, my hopes sadly aren’t too high.

To my surprise, they kept things interesting by skipping ahead several years–the girls are in college and the first chapter begins with Tyler proposing to Misty. Unfortunately, Zac is nowhere to be seen… at least, not at first. It wouldn’t be much of a hanfic if he didn’t eventually show up and cause turmoil in his ex-girlfriend’s life. Again, the focus is still just a bit too much on the original characters for my tastes.

Because so much time is skipped, it’s hard to really connect with either of the two couples, especially since one has broken up and the other is just a series of sex scenes and minor tiffs that get resolved quickly. The most interesting part of the plot is the little bit of a mystery as to why Zac didn’t make it in Hollywood, but that doesn’t get resolved before the story abruptly stops.

It ends on a decent enough note, though, and the grammar is a bit better than the first story. The abrupt scene changes have vanished, although a few scenes are repeated from both characters’ points of view, and a few moments rely too much on eavesdropping (accidental or not). Aside from the unresolved plot and the characters I can barely relate to, it is a decent addition to the series. If Where I Belong was finished, it would greatly improve my overall opinion of the two stories as a whole.
