Kayla wrote some of the earliest hanfics, some that even she acknowledges are the typical teenybopper fare, but this particular story is perhaps the first science fiction one. Despite the groan-worthy title, how could I not read it?

The prologue is a dry infodump that seems fairly fitting for scifi, but the same information could be delivered better if it were integrated into the rest of the story, which feels a bit light on necessary information to keep all the different organizations and government programs straight. What little worldbuilding Kayla has included is fairly adequate, although the idea of a future military full of children is somewhere between laughable and terrifying. Since all the characters, from the Hansons to the original females seem to be prodigies, it falls more on the laughable side.

Although the writing is fairly strong, several chapters are ridiculously short and the tongue-in-cheek references to Lucy, Madeline, Motherbird and more fall a bit flat because of the bland writing. A sudden romantic plot near the end doesn’t help much, and there is really no resolution other than the obvious fact that the boys have made it out alive. What decent worldbuilding Kayla did never amounts to anything, and leaves me wanting a lot more from Moonbop than what I got.
