While Zac is the self-described “cougar magnet” of the band, in the early days of hanfic, Taylor was the most likely to be paired with a fictional older woman in a story. It’s a bit laughable now for me to describe a twenty-four year old as older, but it’s certainly older than the Taylor of Pri$e Tag and sets the stage for plenty of drama.

In spite of the fact that I’m quite sure Myra was a few years shy of her character’s age, she does a decent job of writing her perspective. The few slips to third person are annoying, not only from a technical standpoint, but because I do like Kim’s mixture of introspectiveness and obliviousness that makes it easy to understand her conflict.

Throughout each chapter, Myra leaves us constantly in fear of when Taylor and Kim will be discovered. Even though Taylor’s parents suspect, they never truly have those suspicions confirmed, and their ‘discovery’ ends up being a bit anticlimactic. Not every story can be a great romance, and not every romance can have a happy ending, though. That’s the case with Pri$e Tag, and I suppose such an ending works here, even if it is a little disappointing to reach the end and realize there’s no more. Were the chapters a bit longer, it might not feel like such a disappointment, but overall, this is a pretty well crafted, mature story for a young author.
