I stumbled upon The Second Coming of Camelot some time ago but didn’t make note of the title, only what seemed like a unique plot. I was happy to find it again and give it a chance to see if the story lived up to my expectations.
The first chapter sets the stage for plenty of suspense. Isaac’s girlfriend discovers a book–which shares its title with the fic–that purports to be a memoir that will add to the story of Taylor Hanson’s disappearance with his girlfriend. The excerpts from the story within a story are a little too short to work, and don’t quite prove why the family dislikes the author, Wilson, so much.
The plot that goes on around these little excerpts is strong enough, though, which the older Hanson siblings each taking their turn in the spotlight. Some of these plots get wrapped up a bit quickly at the end of the story, as does the Wilson subplot, which really doesn’t get any resolution. Still, Taylor’s disappearance and reappearance are an interesting enough tale, if not quite as huge of a mystery as Sarah sets them up to be.
All in all, I did enjoy this fic, even though I found it difficult to read because of Sarah’s poor formatting. With a little more fleshing out and a lot of editing, The Second Coming of Camelot could be a really strong, unique story.
