A common plot in hanfic, at least when the boys were still under eighteen, involved one (or more) of the brothers being sent to public school. The reasons for this varied depending on the story. Ashley’s reasoning in Someone is pretty simple, unfortunately, and so is most of the story’s plot.

In addition to the school plot, the story also deals with Zac forming a quick connection with a fan and Taylor’s shotgun wedding. While I normally enjoy shotgun wedding plots, and Ashley does tread old familiar ground with the quick divorce and possibility that the baby isn’t actually Taylor’s, it isn’t quite dramatic enough for my tastes. That’s how most of this story’s plot is–quick, easy and only skimming the surface of all possible drama before being wrapped up far too neatly.

There is a glimmer of a good plot or two here, even with the fairly unfounded spite toward Natalie’s character. It all seems to come a bit too much from a place of jealousy and wish fulfillment, which is certainly understandable given the time when this story was written and how young I’m sure the author was at the time. Unfortunately, The fan characters all come off as caricatures of what fans are (or were) actually like. Still, there are some signs of good writing and plotting in Someone that make me wish an older version of the author had tackled this tale instead.
