The structure of this series is a little confusing, but it was easy enough to figure out that this story offered a different perspective on the same events as the first part, Hanging. I expected perhaps to see Zac’s side of his relationship with Britney, but was pleasantly surprised to get the bus driver Jamie’s story instead.
Her Vegas marriage to Isaac was, unfortunately, only briefly mentioned in Hanging, and it left me wanting more. Surprisingly, there was a lot going on in the background of the first story; the events of the two barely overlap at all so that these two stories could practically be read independently, without ever reading the other. A little more overlap might have been nice.
Crystal’s writing is stronger in some ways than Megan’s, with her characters just a bit more well developed and the chapters lengthier, but her grammar is lacking at times. Still, the plot of The Wheels On The Bus is nice enough, if fairly simple. I normally appreciate an unhappy ending, but this one is a little harder to swallow knowing that the larger series this story belongs to was never finished. Although the writing leaves a little to be desired, these two authors set up interesting premises that are never fully realized.
