This is a bit harsh to say, but I’ve found very few stories on Mibba that I enjoy. The basic, Romeo and Juliet-esque plot of A Minute Without You is promising, but Lorrie’s poor writing keeps from being anywhere near as good as such a plot could be.
From the very first chapter, I’m put off by Lorrie’s refusal to use proper grammar and punctuation. It’s one thing to simply not know the rules and it’s another to disregard some of them for artistic effect, but there’s never a reason to publish a story with no–or at least, very few–capital letters. Even if Lorrie had used proper grammar, her short chapters are more summarization than anything else, so there’s hardly a story here for me to review at all.
What plot there is barely involves that so-called feud between Lori and Taylor’s fathers, and there’s absolutely no resolution to it whatsoever–it simply ends the day Lori and Taylor get married. Instead, the plot (and the preachy final chapter) focuses mainly on Lori’s depression and suicide attempts. It’s such a heavy handed attempt at giving the story a moral that it doesn’t work at all, and combined with some of the sloppiest writing I’ve ever seen, it doesn’t improve my opinion of A Minute Without You at all. While I’m sure the author was young, even youth doesn’t excuse all of her missteps here.
