I wasn’t sure that Forbidden Love really required a sequel, but to my surprise Morgan did manage to add quite a few interesting new plot lines while also resolving the plot of the first story for good.

This story picks up not long after the first one, while Zac and Emily are still trying to keep their relationship secret. That adds some drama, of course, but the biggest drama comes from her father and the monster of a man he’s promised her to. It seems at times like there’s no way she can ever escape from Adam, which can get frustrating to read, and I’m still not sure chapters from his point of view are necessary as he’s just such a heartless monster.

In addition to all of that drama, Morgan includes an interesting–and hot–erotic subplot, too. Zac and Emily find a way to spice up their relationship while also helping her heal from her abuse in the first story, and I find it pretty damn hot to read. I don’t know how, but it seems she always manages to ratchet up the hotness even further with each scene. It might be a little gratuitous at times, but you won’t hear me complaining.

With all of these plots, it’s pretty impressive that she manages to balance them all well and leave a few dangling plot threads for the third story, but she does. If I had a biggest complaint about Desire, it would be that everything still seems mostly focused on Emily and how much she has suffered, so I’m really looking forward to reading about Zac suffering some (more) as this series continues. In spite of that sort of Mary Sue quality to Emily and writing that needs some editing, there’s just something about Morgan’s characters that draws me into their stories and keeps me there.
