Given the reputation Stephen has as the founder of the Taylight Zone, I expected something a little different going into this fic. Of course, had I noticed that it was a crossover with the television show Touched By An Angel, I might have been prepared for the rather cheesy religious content.
Having said that, there isn’t really anything here to be offended by even if you aren’t a Christian–and I certainly am not. There are some preachy moments, but no hellfire and brimstone. In spite of some of the content–depression, drunk driving, death–this is ultimately a feel good story about the power of music and, specifically, the power of Hanson’s music.
MMMmiracle really isn’t a very long story, although it tries hard to be a deep one. It emulates the style and format of the television show well, with a few cute little details thrown in. Ultimately, this is Stephen’s way of saying thank you to the band he loves, and in that way the cheesiness succeeds. It’s just enough to leave me curious what two more stories can add to this trilogy.
