Searching For Home begins with some pretty heavy exposition, which I would normally complain about, but in this case it’s necessary, as Chelle and Nikki have changed quite a bit about Hanson and 3CG as we know them. Still, their attention to detail is a bit too much for me and makes this a pretty tedious read.

In spite of all those changes to the Hanson canon, this story actually focuses much more in the original character, Brianna, than any potential Hanson drama. Her story doesn’t come across quite as dramatic as it should, in spite of the backstory the authors have given her that sends her on a cross-country trip to find her birth mother. Coincidences and prophetic dreams don’t make it any easier to swallow, either.

As for potential Hanson drama… Taylor has his own dramatic background, with a cheating ex-wife and shared custody a young daughter. Given that he and Brianna are obviously destined to get together, there’s plenty of potential for waves there, but their conflict seems mostly to stem from his inability to share his feelings and her reluctance to return them. Again, a clear source of drama is dulled down and doesn’t go very far.

Chelle and Nikki come close to proving me wrong with one surprise event, but unfortunately, this takes place in the last existing chapter of Searching For Home and so the mystery is never solved. While this story is stronger and better edited than Chelle’s solo writing, the drama is kept too low key and the writing too bogged down with needless details for me to form any strong attachment to the story.
