Fate Will Bring Us Together Again

by Jandy (link)

Genre drama/angst, supernatural
Pairings Zac/OFC
Length 22 chapters
Status Unfinished (sequel to We Live Like Kings and Paupers)

After the confusing, jumbled mess that was We Live Like Kings and Paupers, I wasn’t expecting much from this sequel. While it is a bit lengthier, the chapters aren’t much longer, more confusing plot elements are added and ultimately there’s little to no resolution for any of it.

Three years have passed, and Zac and Alanis have lost touch for reasons unexplained until much later in the story. When those reasons are revealed, they don’t make much sense given Diana’s other actions, and are all too quickly resolved. Instead of revolving around their reunion, as it seems it will, this story once devolves into kidnappings and runaways.

Over the course of just a few chapters, six months somehow passes while Zac searches for Alanis. Little of her time on the run after escaping from her father is shown and what is shown may be only a figment of her imagination. Zac, on the other hand, runs into an entirely new plot device–vampire-like demons that nearly kill him.

In a confusing and quickly resolved fight with Alanis’s father, the psychic plot comes back to the forefront, as the government apparently wants to experiment on teens like her. Once again, there are hints of interesting ideas in Fate Will Bring Us Together Again, but Jandy’s writing isn’t strong enough to sustain so many ideas and too many of them just don’t make sense at all. Even a real conclusion to this story wouldn’t help much.
