I, typically, don’t read Isaac stories. I, honestly, can’t remember the last one I read before When It All Falls Apart if that’s any indication of how long it’s been, but I really enjoyed this story. I felt really sympathetic toward Isaac, and I really liked his character. I think I spent 90% of the story hating Zac because he was such a douche, but I think that only made the story better. I liked how this sort of took the rumors of Isaac and Kate’s past relationship and made it into an interesting plot for a story.
I really liked the direction the story took with Isaac picking up and leaving his family behind, and considering what happenend, I could completely understand why he made that move. I also liked the way Tessa’s character entered the story, and the way their paths crossed. The development of their relationship was really nice as well. I never felt like Tessa was there to rid Isaac of his feelings for Kate, and his feelings for Tessa felt well paced and believable. I think my favorite part of the story was Isaac’s dream where he’s standing on a fence with Jessica and Kate is on one side and Tessa is on the other. I thought that was a perfect way for him to realize he’d moved on past his feelings for Kate.
I also really liked the way the story was split into two parts, and Isaac’s past is merged with his present and future. I also liked the reappearance of the Hanson family. I still mostly hated Zac, and I liked that there was a lot of tension between the two throughout. I also thought all of the supporting characters were really well developed and helped strengthen the story and move the plot along.
