What is it about Taylor being a vampire in older hanfics? I’m not sure when or how this became such a popular trope, but it’s not surprising that Taylor Quest embraced it in Eternal Night, although it does seem a bit out of left field even for this series.

Once again, we see Taylor and Will attempting to embark on a vacation, this time to Paris. This allows for the most explicit sex scene to date, and I have to say I agree with the stewardess who found it hot. In spite of everything else that frustrates me about Taylor Quest’s writing, Taylor and Will are an easy to ship couple. Likewise, I find the scenes with Zac and the rest of the family interesting, although the subplot with Isaac and Shiye is telegraphed rather obviously.

Their vacation, however, is once again not meant to be. A storm reroutes their flight to Romania, which immediately conjures up thoughts of Vlad the Impaler–perhaps better known in pop culture as Dracula. The man himself shows up, and of course Taylor is irresistible to him. From there, the story gets progressively stranger, with Taylor’s ex Anthea exhibiting even more extreme behavior, and the final scenes full of horrible purple prose.

In true Taylor Quest fashion, it is revealed that none of this is real. Rather than a dream (within a dream within a dream), the vampire tale of Eternal Night is revealed to be a novel Taylor wrote during a peaceful, romantic vacation in Paris. Anthea’s fate is still left a bit up in the air, along with some odd happenings between Isaac and Shiye, but those dangling plot threads aren’t quite enough to excite me to see how the fourth book in this series continues this fake out trend.
