While Devastation ended on a very happy note–Zac and Gabby’s wedding–I knew things wouldn’t stay so happily ever after for very long. There were plenty of options for where Morgan would go for drama, and as it turns out, she went to nearly all of them.

Sure enough, Infatuation jumps right into the drama, with a brief but potentially explosive re-appearance by Zac’s ex-girlfriend. I’m pleased that this doesn’t turn into the sort of cheating storyline it could have, and also that Gabby has finally reached a point where she trusts Zac enough to believe what he tells her. That said, I still think the “girl in New York” who keeps getting brought up could have been interesting as a bigger plot point, but it’s also a neat little red herring, too.

Speaking of red herrings, there are some major, neon sign sized clues peppered throughout Infatuation. One of them I guessed early on, and I turned out to be correct. The other is, as it turns out, little more than another red herring. I’m a little less than excited about the stalking plot that feels too reminiscent of Morgan’s first series, but this one goes into some different directions that leave a lot of possibilities as to who might be to blame. I won’t spoil the ending, but suffice it to say, I don’t think anyone will guess the true perpetrator.

As a series ender, Infatuation does a good job of combining a lot of the types of drama that appeared in the previous two stories. It doesn’t feel like a rehashing; it’s just the culmination and solution to all of it. There are still a few other plot threads that might have been interesting to see explored, but this feels like a good place to end Zac and Gabby’s story.
