Lost Without Each Other is a newish fic. It was started and completed in the span of almost a month. Which I love when new authors update..I love when any author updates to be honest.
This fic though I must admit based on just the first chapter I wasn’t sure I was going to like it. But around chapter three I got into the fic really well because it became clear it wasn’t just your typical Hanson cheats on his wife type of fic.
This story actually did good with portraying the realness of each character and while I get Phoebe and Zac’s chemistry and that not everything is black and white I was still glad KT didn’t make Kate a bitch to make the cheating happen because that kind of gets old(coming from someone who has done just that more than once).
Instead KT drew on Zac and Phoebe’s shared history and the what-if’s their break up brought to do the cheating angle and it made much more realistic than the bitchy wife angle does at times. It also made it a bit easier to be somewhat sympathetic to Phoebe’s character as a whole, especially with the past scenes woven into most chapters.
I must admit though that I didn’t really ship Zac and Phoebe. Instead I kind of wanted Phoebe with Taylor even though he remained with Natalie and never once got with Phoebe period. Their chemistry was just way better than any she had with Zac in my own opinion.
I also sorta wish that Harper had shown Kate more than what she did because I really liked Kate, especially in a scene towards the end of the story and just that scene alone made me see why Zac was in love with Kate too and why spoiler warning: He chose Kate in the end which was and is also a nice break from most cheating stories since they usually leave their wife for the mistress.
I loved that KT changed that though again in this and had Zac stay with Kate because that’s another realistic part of cheating. Sometimes marriages still last after and not everyone leaves for their affair partner.
The ending though was really bittersweet in a good way and I think it brought everything into full circle mode. It’s something I was happy about and felt like it fit the story as a whole.
In conclusion though I really hope one day KT decides to write another hanfic because this one was really good and I’d definitely read more hanfics written by her.
A P.S. sorta: One of my favorite aspects though about this fic was how KT added the musical aspect to it which even most canon fics I feel it falls flat just a bit but I felt like KT has a bit of experience on how things go with music and instruments and that type of life. An experience that maybe not every fan has or at least not enough that googling will help you with.
