If Tomorrow Never Comes is a story that is mainly about a ship I don’t like. Taylor Hanson and Michelle Branch are just two people I really don’t care to read about mainly because I don’t like Michelle nor do I believe the baseless rumors that they dated in real life.
But I really love KT’s writing so I gave this story a chance and I’m glad I did because it wasn’t like I would expect a typical Taylor and Michelle story to go.
KT made a story that made Michelle likable and I felt sorry for her during most of it, especially once it became apparent how close to canon this fic was going to be and I almost had a nano second moment where I didn’t want it to follow canon. But I am glad it did follow canon.
I also love how KT made Natalie not just some background character who was bitchy or made her bitchy in general because let’s be honest the trope of making Natalie bitchy to make another ship work is kind of outdated and old and gets boring. So this was a breath of fresh air to see that it didn’t happen here.
Instead Natalie was really likable and I also felt sorry for her and her outcome too. Just like I sorta felt sorry for Taylor as well.
In the end it was such a bittersweet story much like life that did well weaving in all of Michelle’s songs from Hotel Paper.
