By this point in the series, it’s become clear that we’re in a world of very, very grey morality. I’m not sure whether or not Aimster really meant for one of the primary focuses of this fic to be on what personhood and autonomy really mean, but it’s hard to avoid those sort of themes with a story about human cloning. We get just a little bit of that in The Jock, but I wouldn’t have minded even more of it mixed in with all the other plot threads that pick up once the boys are back on United States soil.
This is a fic of reunions and first time meetings. Carey and his wife visit Taylor’s family in Tulsa, Keandre returns to the States as well, Mark leaves Chicago and Alex gets to know another clone at the lab. Their stories are all different, but they fit together somehow.
Although up to this point, Jesse’s action movie hero vibe has made him one of my favorite clones, I find myself really enjoying Alex’s role in this installment of the series. He’s still timid and anxious, but he’s also curious, which has always been true. Now that he’s out of his comfort zone, he can explore that curiosity even further… for better or worse.
