by Aimster (link)

Genre science fiction, suspense/thriller, mystery
Pairings Isaac/Nikki, Taylor/Natalie, Zac/Kate
Length 10 chapters
Status Completed (part of the Kindred series)

What’s interesting about this story–and the other prequel–is that Taylor doesn’t actually appear at all. In fact, this one barely even makes mention of his influence on the clones’ lives, although Zac does get a brief and somewhat comic cameo. Instead, this story shows a little bit more about how the clones became the people they are when we first see them in the main series.

There’s a bit more focus on Kenadre, Carey and Mark than any of the other characters. I find Keandre’s story a bit unbelievable, but it is interesting to see one of the clones living such a different life from the others. The addition of the French dialogue is difficult to follow, even with the translations right in the text.

The added focus on the twins also makes sense given the last secret that was revealed in Kindred 12. I do find them quite compelling characters, although I also think Jesse’s story adds a lot to the series as well–in particular the very last moment of it. It all ends on something of a cliffhanger that makes me want to go back and start the series over. I’m sure there’s a lot I’ve missed in this surprisingly lengthy and complex series that will warrant at least one more reading.
