I am gonna admit right off the bat that I was wary starting The One That Brings Me Back. I knew it was self-insert and I am not the biggest self-insert fan when it comes to fanfics. I blame one too many shitty wattpad fics for that.

I’m glad I gave this story a chance though because what Harper and Sarah wrote was better than just any normal self-insert fic. It def wasn’t the normal run of the mill self-inserts where the females where Mary-Sue’s. The two main Original Female’s Molly and Jillian were not May-Sue at all.

They also didn’t go to the other scale of being wonder women and doing everything which I’m also not fond of in self-insert fics.

They were just both normal characters. What I like in fics with OC’s.

I must admit though I think while I love Molly, I saw more of myself in Jillian which is why at times in comments I may have been more critical of that character but such is life I guess. Either way I loved both females in ways that are hard to describe.

I also really loved Taylor/Molly’s relationship basically from the get go while Zac/Jillian’s was harder for me to get into and not because I saw a lot of myself in Jillian but more because I felt Kate wasn’t really treated well by Zac or even given much time as a character. Not as much as Natalie was and that as a reader almost felt unfair to me.

But even despite that I still loved fic. I loved all the angst and fluff and smutty moments. I loved all of it and I loved that in the end it was more than just a fic dealing with Molly and Jillian’s relationships with Zac and Taylor.

It was more so a fic about their relationship with each other in my opinion and more fics in general need that. They need strong female friendships and relationships.

Just all of the female-female stuff.

I’m pretty sure one day I’m going to reread this epic saga of a fic. I’m also pretty sure when I do I’ll love it as much as I loved reading it as it was posted.
