The title of this series isn’t very inspired, I’ll admit. I’m curious to see what meaning the title One Hundred and Two has, though. I can’t even begin to conjure up any possible meanings for it, but it has me intrigued, at least.

The story begins from the point of view of Lucy’s mother. She and Diana, who went to high school together, lead very different lives, so it looks like this is going to be one of those rich boy/poor girl stories that crop up so often in this fandom. It’s not an uninteresting plot, but it’s a hard one to do well without falling back onto stereotypes. After the prologue, though, the story skips well into the future, when Taylor is married to Natalie, not Lucy. I’m not always a fan of huge time skips in stories, but here it keeps the drama of Lucy’s life from being too overwhelming.

Not surprisingly, Lucy and Taylor’s story is ripped right out of the song that bears her name. That doesn’t bother me as much as it should, because it matches up quite well with my own personal interpretation of the song. Still, it’s not easy to put Hanson songs in your story (and I say that as someone very guilty of doing it).

As for the story’s title, it’s never explained – or if it is, I missed it entirely. Aside from that nagging annoyance, it’s a good if short read. It’s a nicely contained, complete story. I’m curious to see how Lucy and Taylor’s story, which seems to end here, can continue on for not one but two more stories.
