Collide

by Heather (link)

Genre het, drama, romance
Pairings Isaac/OFC, Taylor/Natalie, Taylor/OFC
Length 37 chapters
Status Completed (second story in the Lucy & Taylor Trilogy)

Because One Hundred and Two was such a self-contained story, I wasn’t sure how a sequel would possibly work. Naturally, Lucy is going to come back into Taylor’s life; that’s just a given. The question is, will Heather be able to reinvent their story enough to really warrant a sequel?

It doesn’t take long before I have my answer. Natalie drops a bomb on Taylor in the very first chapter, a bomb that somehow leaves me more prepared for Lucy’s secret in the next chapter. It’s a little cliche, but it serves its purpose.

I’ve said this before, but I’m a big fan of stories where they characters aren’t all perfect. They’re flawed human beings who do bad things, but in spite of that, you want them to be happy, even if you don’t always understand the reasoning behind their actions. This is where I think Heather excels. There’s one point where I felt like she had gone too far, but then she reeled me back in with Taylor’s emotions.

Heather packs a whole hell of a lot of drama into Collide; there’s really no other way to describe it. For the most part, though, the emotional reactions to the drama are believable, and that’s what saves this story from being completely over-the-top. The story ends fairly abruptly, and while I’m not confident the third and final part of the trilogy will be significantly different, I am anxious to read it.
