I’ll admit, I tend to place a lot, perhaps too much, emphasis on how long a story is. Still, the paragraph long prologue to The Best Kind of Alone gave me pause with its extreme brevity. It was good, though, starting the story off with a real hint of mystery.

Despite that short and mysterious prologue, the following books (which contain a few short chapters each) move fairly slowly. Once it does start moving, it’s a little hard to follow how much time has passed, and I’m also not crazy about all the point of view changes. It’s a little hard to really feel the emotions of the story when it seems to shift so quickly. The short chapters don’t help with that, either, and I was confused by the chapters and books, which are all on one page.

That little bit of a mystery at the beginning isn’t really that much of a mystery at all. The dreams Isaac had do, however, turn out to be fairly prophetic, putting the story squarely in the realm of cheesy romance. Still, the dialogue is good, with several cute, snappy lines peppered throughout. Although I never quite cared as much about the characters as I would have liked to, the ending did tug at my heartstrings.
