I’m all for stories that begin in medias res, but there’s something about the beginning of Love Me that really throws me off. I’m not sure why Zac is in such a bad mood or anything. Maybe it isn’t even important, because it all seems to vanish by the end of the chapter, to be replaced by the sudden appearance of Zaylor.
Yes, this is a Zaylor story. I didn’t classify it as cest, because there are several pairings and potential pairings happening here, and it’s all a bit of a jumbled, dramatic mess. The writing is rather sloppy, as well, making it often difficult to tell who is speaking. That said, there’s some hilarious dialogue (if you can tell who said it) and a few really nice turns of phrase in the narration.
All that confusion continues through the rest of the story. No matter how many times I reread certain passages, I feel like I’ve missed some important information that usually gets referred back to later. It’s all really confusing and added to the poorly formatted dialogue, makes the story really difficult to follow. A story with as much drama as Love Me needs to be handled with care, and while I can tell that Presley tried, I’m not entirely sure that she succeeded. In the end, there’s a huge cliffhanger that doesn’t even have me very excited to read the sequel.
