There are certain plots that will always be pervasive in hanfic. One of the most popular ones is the one where a lucky fan or two manages to cross paths with the boys, whether it be backstage, through or contest or whatever. The fact that this so closely mirrors reality is the only reason why I don’t criticize such a cliche more harshly when it happens in fics, such as in Girls Like Us (Guys Like Them).

Plot aside, my biggest issue with this story is that there’s little to differentiate between the two first person narrators. The chapters are never labeled, so I’m often left confused for a few paragraphs as to whether Alexis or Brianna is narrating. Once Hanson gets brought into the picture, it becomes easier to tell who is narrating based on which brother she’s with… not that it’s super clear from the beginning just who is going to end up together.

Of course, the story is unfinished, so I don’t ever get to find out who ends up together. Not a lot happens in the twenty chapters that exist, especially in the first few before Hanson come into the picture. There’s not a great deal I can say about the plot; it’s fairly typical and not really exciting, but I don’t see any huge flaws with the romcom-ish drama. It could definitely use some editing, for grammar and to differentiate between the narrators, but the writing is overall like the plot — not bad, but not anything truly special.
