The fact that Jenna didn’t actually plan for this story to exist surprises me. The first story, Does He Love You?, ends so abruptly, with so much potential in its open ending. Where she goes with My Slumbering Heart, though, is anything but typical, and I like that it veers off into an unusual direction.
What do I mean by that? Well, baby mama drama is common enough in hanfic. What I like about this story, though, is that it isn’t about Andy and Taylor becoming a family with their illegitimate child. Instead, it’s about Andy falling for a different Hanson brother… namely, Isaac.
Despite that interesting premise, I feel like My Slumbering Heart progresses a little too quickly, glossing over and easily resolving some of its bigger plot points. That’s a bit disappointing, and it leaves me waiting for the bottom to drop out, but it never does. Instead, it’s mostly a sweet little love story with a few minor bumps in the road–and I don’t mean the occasional grammatical errors and strange turns of phrase. While I still think Jenna was onto something good here, I definitely think she could have done more with it.
