I have a thing for alternate universe stories that cast the boys in very normal roles. In this one, Zac is a poolboy, so I already love it before I’ve even started reading. Over the years, I’ve seen people talk about a poolboy story. Whether or not it was Evaporated, I’m rather excited to read it.

The plot, sadly, is rather sparse and focused almost entirely on — you guessed it — the poolboy gig and the hot sex Zac has with the girl whose mother has employed him. Casey’s writing, as well, is rather sparse, except for needless descriptions of clothing that focuses far too much on the brands. What Casey doesn’t focus on is the sex scenes. Despite their number and the fact that she has billed the story as quite adult, she often glosses over the details of the sex. When she doesn’t, the scenes are quite steamy, making it all the more disappointing that so many of them fade to black before things really get going.

There really isn’t much the story besides those steamy scenes, though. The character development is minimal, and except for a few cute moments, Zac hardly feels like Zac to me. Casey has taken that alternate universe thing a little too far, really. There are a few plot threads I wish she had done a lot more with, and those are the reason I’m actually somewhat looking forward to reading Evaporated‘s sequels, in spite of all that I felt it lacked.
