Casey begins this story with a little intro explaining how she loved her characters, Zac and Ruby, too much to let them go. I certainly understand that feeling, but the first story of this trilogy left me with little impression of these two characters. I hope that this second story develops them a little further and provides me with more of interest than just a few steamy sex scenes.
A Thousand Miles Away is definitely not lacking in steamy sex scenes, though — and not all of them are between Zac and Ruby, although those are by far the steamiest. At times I feel like Casey is relying too much on sex to drive the story at the expense of an actual plot. What plot there is feels fairly typical and predictable, and Casey skips over large expanses of time to get to the end of that plot.
There is, however, a bit more character development here, or at least more of the same personalities on display. Zac and Taylor still don’t quite feel like themselves, but Zac does have some adorable and romantic moments that I really enjoy, even if I can’t quite picture the real Zac in those scenes. It’s not enough to make me fall in love with the story, but I do care a bit more about the characters now and am curious to see what a third story will bring for them.
