Thief of Forgotten Mistakes is an Isaac story that I knew going into it was about molestation. I knew the subject matter would be heavy yet I read it anyway, prepared to cry and I did cry. I cried like a baby and I am not ashamed to admit that in anyway.
The story takes place with Isaac going home after seven years. To see a family he left behind because of his abuse. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the reunion. I think I was hoping that his father would get what he deserved while there but sadly they didn’t come to pass. I was also hoping that Isaac’s mother would find out and leave his father but again I was mistaken there too because as it turns out she knew.
I think that part was the biggest pill for me to swallow. How could a mother just stand by and know what her husband was doing, accept it even. But then I was reminded it happens in real life all the time and that let me know Rebekah as an author is good at choosing topics about harsh situations.
I can’t say the story has a happy ending. It’s bittersweet to say the least but it does leave the readers knowing that Isaac has gotten his closure and is ready to move on with his life. Though a part of me can’t help but want to imagine a scenario for after the story ends. Just so in my head his dad gets what he deserves..to be alone.
