I suspected that I saw the beginnings of this story in the previous one, but it appears two years have passed between the two. I hope that Karen manages to tie the stories together, as this feels like one thing her series is really lacking in. Still, I’m curious to see how what Karen has planned for Zac.
Karen’s Zac easily has the most distinctive voice of all her narrators so far, and I like that the story sticks with his perspective. Amanda Jean, better known as AJ, gets to be a bit more of a true mystery this way, and I’m not being smacked upside the head with foreshadowing. Instead, I get to sit back and enjoy Zac’s cynical voice and his wariness of romance. Of course, AJ soon begins to change the latter.
One thing I’ve noticed about early hanfics set in the future is how they often get so close to reality, yet so far. Karen’s stories are no exception, and there are a few little tidbits in Lady of My Heart in particular that are so far from reality as to be laughable. Still, I enjoy all of her callbacks to real events in Hanson’s career, which come to a head in this story, as Zac meets the fan ‘responsible’ for Taylor and Laura’s first meeting… and falls in love with her. Their story isn’t as dramatic as Taylor and Laura’s, but it ends in Karen’s typical dramatic, and fairly abrupt, style. Still, Zac’s distinct voice makes Lady of My Heart a fun little read with a few more entertaining moments than its predecessors.
