Although I was far from impressed with the first story in this series, which read like a gay version of the typical teenybopper fic, I am intrigued by the list of characters and vague plot description Jaxsper gives of this second story. It was written only a short time after the first, but I hope that was long enough for him to have grown into a better author.

Aside from the annoying point of view changes, which sometimes happen from one paragraph to the next, and a few tense changes, the writing does seem stronger here. And despite the title, Hanson Road Rules has less to do with the MTV show and much more to do with a bunch of gay or possibly gay teenage runaways. It isn’t, overall, a bad plot, but there are a few over the top elements. I’m always going to roll my eyes at teenagers deciding to get married, whether the story is het or slash. At least Jaxsper may have done the research on how Taylor and Jax could have had a wedding, if not a legal one, in 1999.

Just like your typical teenybopper story, there are plenty of original characters with unique names here. Then there’s one without a name. His origins are left mysterious, setting the stage for a third story. I’m not that invested in whatever overly dramatic story happens there, but I am, at least, interested in Zac’s continued relationship (or lack thereof) drama with Toby. When so many things about a story bother me, at least there’s one thing to keep me reading.
