March 2013 Author: Lindsay

You might recognize that name from last month’s spotlights; Lindsay wrote the story I featured for February, and it’s one of my favorite stories around right now.

If you’re interested in reading that story, it’s called Don’t Stop Me Now and you can find it at the link right there. She also has some shorter fics on LiveJournal, which you can read here.

ETA: You can now also read her fic right here on PTH at her site Percipience.

Why did you start writing hanfic? How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing Hanfic since the summer of 1998, really. One of my best friends and I would sit at her computer and read Hanfic written by other people and one day we decided to start our own. It’s snowballed since then.

I have always loved to read and write, as long as I can remember. The first time I thought I was any good at it was when I was in third grade; our teacher assigned us a short story. When I got my paper back, she had given me an A+ with bonus points for descriptiveness.

Do you write any other types of fanfic or original fic? If so, how is that different from hanfic?
I write all kinds of fiction, from poetry to short stories. Most of my fanfic is Hanson, but I do tread in to the Supernatural fandom on occasion. You check out some shorts and poems at my other livejournal, lipsticklullaby.

What are your favorite hanfic stories and authors?
My absolute, all-time favorite two Hanfics are “The You In You” by Morbosa–I don’t think you can find it online anymore, at least not in it’s entirety…(but it was a story written by a good friend of mine and aside from being absolutely hilarious holds sentimental value), and “Catapult”, which I have read something like ten times.

As for authors, I’m a HUGE fan of Cecilia Page. She’s the talent behind stories like “Avery”…and while she doesn’t post much of her new stuff, she and I have become great friends and share our works and even edit for each other.

What is your writing process like?
Usually, I will be doing something totally unrelated to writing, like grocery shopping or taking a shower, and I will suddenly have a line or two pop in to my head. I’ll mull it over and then sit in front of the computer until something comes out. Sometimes I will get an idea and run with it, or I’ll give myself prompts and go from there. Usually, I write all my chapters in one sitting; I don’t like stepping away from a specific thought flow when I’m right in the middle if I can avoid it. Other times, I’ll have to sit on an idea for awhile and type up a few rough copies before something polished comes out.

Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?
As hokey as this sounds–life. Sometimes, it’s something that has happened to me (a lot of the stuff on lipsticklullaby is from direct personal experience), other times it’s fantasy (imagine being the center of a Zaylor sandwich). The easiest thing for me is to write what I know and what I want.

Which stories are you most proud of having written?
“Since I Told You It’s Over” is hands-down the one Hanfic story I am most proud of having written. It started as a prologue to another story and morphed in to this incredible entity all it’s own. (link)

Favorite songs to listen to while you write or which inspire your writing?
It depends on the tone of the story and my overall feelings of creativeness. Most of what I write tends to be darker, so I stick to heavier themes, both lyrically and musically. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot ton of The Black Keys and Gotye while I write. As far as inspiration goes, I find that any song that has a deeper meaning can spark an idea in me.

Thank you, Lindsay, for being my March spotlight! I can’t wait for the next chapter of Don’t Stop Me Now.
