You may recognize that name from one of my recent spotlights. Juliet has just joined (or re-joined, as you’ll see in her interview) the hanfic world, and she’s made a big splash. And of course, you all know by now that I can’t resist interviewing someone like that!
Juliet has, as of right now, only published one story, You Are A Drug And It Is Quick. You can find it here, on her Wattpad account. You can also find her on Tumblr for more of her hanfic and Hanson thoughts. Read on to see what she had to say to my questions.
Why did you start writing hanfic? How long have you been writing?
I started writing hanfic because I’ve always loved to write, and hanfic has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Originally I started writing it in probably 2000 or so, but was never able to actually finish a story. I started to feel like maybe I was “too old” to be doing it so just kind of gave up after a while. I realized earlier this year that if I enjoy it, I should just do it. So I started You Are A Drug And It Is Quick, and now I have several other stories planned out because it’s just so fun!
What’s your favorite genre/pairing to write and why?
I’m obviously a sucker for romance, though after this story I think I may step out of the box a bit for my next one. I’m a Zac girl so I like Zac/OFC pairings best.
What are your favorite hanfic stories and authors?
Honestly I have loved so many of your stories! The entire Sweetest Downfall series and Untold being my top favorites. Currently I am really enjoying Unexpected Beautiful by Becky, and Sonny Get Your Gun by JemGrrl.
What is your writing process like?
Typically I don’t plan ahead too much. I’ll come up with an idea and then from there, I just go chapter by chapter. What I think I may have planned out to happen next may totally change once I actually sit down and start writing.
Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?
It can be anything…a song, a dream, something I see on TV or in a movie. It will just spark a small idea and then things just start swirling around in my head and it grows from there.
Which stories are you most proud of having written?
You Are A Drug And It Is Quick is the first story I’ve ever really come this far on. As I said earlier, when I originally started writing hanfic years ago I abandoned most of my stories. I am really proud of this one so far though because people really seem to love it and I honestly didn’t expect that anyone would actually read it. I hope to write many more that I can be proud of once I finish this one.
Favorite songs to listen to while you write or which inspire your writing?
Any Hanson song, obviously. I wouldn’t be writing this stuff at all if they were not around to inspire me! Though sometimes I have to shut the music off because I will get distracted when I am trying to write and I’ll just start dancing or singing instead.
Thank you, Juliet, for being the October spotlight! I’m happy to see another author from way back in the day coming back into the hanfic fold.
