July 2013 Author: Staci

It’s always interesting to see the “crack” pairings — pairings that have absolutely no basis in reality — that pop up from time to time in hanfic. One of the newest of these is Taylor/Tommy Joe Ratliff. Staci, a long time Hanson fan but new hanfic author, has recently written a few fics about the pairing, so I thought it would be interesting to interview her.

You can read her fics here on A03. While she only has two hanfics so far, she assured me that she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of writing more.

Why did you start writing hanfic? How long have you been writing?

I can actually blame the author of SNAFUBAR for drawing me into writing Hanson. I’ve been a fan of the boys since I was 11 and their music has always been in my life, but I’ve never been a part of the fandom so the thought never occurred to me until reading SNAFU that people had been writing about the boys for years.

I have been writing since I was about thirteen I guess. I’ve always had an overactive imagination and I’m not great at dealing with my own emotions so I use writing to work through my own crap through characters.

Most of your fic is in the Glambert fandom. How is that different from the Hanson fandom?

I think the biggest difference about Adam fandom is that usually when I write fic about Adam, he is actually gay so I think it makes explaining why the parties around him may fall under his spell is easier.

What are your favorite hanfic stories and authors?

Again, I’m very new in fandom. My favorite fic and author at the moment is definitely darenotlove who does SNAFUBAR.

What is your writing process like?

Generally I wait until I have the house to myself so I can focus, throw on some music, and go along with whatever hairbrained idea the muses in my head are babbling about.

Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?

I’m inspired by random things, from movies, to songs, to kinks. It’s really just a matter of something coming into my life at the right time.

Which stories are you most proud of having written?

I think my favorite fics I’ve done through the years have been my mpregs, any of them. So few people write them in a way that isn’t crack fic so I think it’s definitely something that I brought a new facet to in my normal fandom.

Favorite songs to listen to while you write or which inspire your writing?

Here lately for whatever reason I’ve been writing to My Chemical Romance. I think part of it is that I like their music, but I’m not overly distracted by Gerard’s voice. But I have to say while writing Lost Without You that I was definitely locked on ANTHEM.

Thank you, Staci, for being the July spotlight! I hope you do continue to write hanfic.
