November 2014 Author: Becky

You all know by now how excited I get when I find a new author, right? It’s even more exciting when said author reaches out to me, as Becky did.

So far, she has one story in progress, which I’ve been beta reading for her. You can read that story, Unexpected Beautiful, on her LiveJournal, here. And you can read her answers to my questions below…

Why did you start writing hanfic? How long have you been writing?

I decided to write this story after I attended Hanson Day this last May. I wanted to write a sexy romance that would entertain other fans that could function as a fantasy for fans to live vicariously though.

As for how long I’ve been writing ,well, this is my first Hanson story, though I have written fan fiction for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom.

Do you write other fiction and/or fanfic as well? If so, what genres/fandoms/etc?

I have been very active for years in the Buffy fandom, and have written some fic, through I’m more of a reader than a writer.

What are your favorite hanfic stories and authors?

I’m new to Hanson fan fiction, so I have not read much yet. I have a lot to catch up on! Currently I am reading “Kiss and Tell” by Bethany and “Catapult.”

Back in the day, I did read many of the “classics” – Tulsa 74132, I’m Not a Playa I Just Crush a Lot , Blond Over Blue, Zac Says Tay Still Wets the Bed, etc though I am largely in the dark about new hanfic.

What is your writing process like?

Honestly? I’m still kind of figuring that out. I hope to write more hanfic after this and also improve my writing.

Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?

For this particular story, Hanson’s “Lost Without You”, which happens to be my all-time favorite of their songs, was a big inspiration. The song is so epic and engaging, which is how I see Taylor and Palace’s love. For me, that song is about longing for something, but not being sure of what it is. For Taylor, that’s Palace. She fills a void in him he didn’t know he had before he met her. The song is also about a desire we all have to just give in to what we want, to take it without regrets and not look back. And of course, like many of Hanson’s songs, it’s about the power of love to overcome anything. These are themes that are very attractive to me, and themes that both Taylor and Palace are attracted too, as well.

Which stories are you most proud of having written?

Hopefully this one when it’s done!

Favorite songs to listen to while you write or which inspire your writing?

See #5! Hanson, of course! Also, there is a dark side to this story and to Palace and Taylor, and that mutual darkness is a way they relate to each other. When I’m thinking about these two, and what they go through together, I listen to old-school goth. It’s dreary and dark, but also haunting and beautiful, full of longing. These songs inspire me to imagine what Palace and Taylor must feel like in the story.

Thank you, Becky, for being the November author spotlight! Can’t wait to read more of your story 🙂
