It’s really exciting to see “old” hanfic authors rediscovering the fandom — especially if I can help them get back into it. CeeCee recently rediscovered hanfic, at least partially due to this site, and is working on making her return. Because of that, I thought she was a good choice to interview this month.
You can read her other fic on her blog, CeeCee’s Circus, and she hopes to debut a new hanfic called Dare to Play in the near future.
Why did you start writing hanfic? How long have you been writing?
It’s funny, actually. I didn’t realize that I was writing fanfiction when I started writing fanfiction. I started in the summer of 1998 in-between breaks at work (I worked summers in HS with my father) and just got this crazy idea to insert myself into a situation where I would meet my favorite band. My mind just went crazy from there and has never returned to me since!
I know you’re a Twilight fan, too. How is that fandom different from Hanson?
Yeah, both fandoms are completely different and have completely different authors (however, I have run into a couple Hanson fans!) with different writing styles. I feel with The TwiSaga we can give Jacob his happy ending that should’ve happened with Bella the way it was supposed to, or give the angry Paul his balance in an imprint (if you’re writing canon), or maybe even give Leah the ending she deserves. The big difference is that The TwiSaga is based off a book/movie but Hanson is actually real people who deal with actual real life situations everyday.
What are your favorite hanfic stories and authors?
I was obsessed with Catapult way back when. I actually started re-reading it thanks to PTH, lol. I was also a huge fan of Kaylee, Brittney, and Becca (who all of them I miss very much). There were a lot of talented authors back in the day. Most of which I admired and hoped to be able to accomplish and write the way they did (by capturing an audience and keeping them interested). So far, I think I still have a long way to go.
What is your writing process like?
I read a few of your other interviews and I will agree with Brittney. I will have a random idea pop into my head and just sit on it for a few days. Sometimes I literally get obsessed over a plot line and it lives in my head for awhile before I get the nerve to start jotting down notes, scenes, quotes, or even an outline. Its funny cuz a lot of the times I feel that the characters tell me their story on their own and I get random scenes and conversations flash through my head. Each process is different.
Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?
Anything from a random conversation, a picture, a particular feeling, and sometimes even from my own life experiences/thoughts. I’ve always believed you should write about what you know or what interests you the most. That way, you’re bound to make sense and get facts straight. It makes the reader get pulled in easier I think.
Which stories are you most proud of having written?
I don’t think I have a favorite, but the plot line for my debut Twific, Getting Bella Pregnant I feel is pretty decent. After that one I’m planning a Zac Hanson/Taylor Lautner crossover called Dare to Play – that one in my mind is darker and seductive; completely different from what I’m used to because I struggle with sensual writing, lol. Perhaps the most memorable one for me is what started it all – Forever & Ever, my Ike fic which never made it on the internet. Currently, I mostly write one-shots and PWP but I’m a modest writer and don’t think much of my work, though I do get some positive feedback on them once in awhile.
Favorite songs to listen to while you write or which inspire your writing?
I don’t have any favorite per se, just whatever mood/feeling of the story is I’ll sometimes draw from. Sometimes I will get an idea for a scene or plot line from a song but for me, sometimes listening to music while writing can be very distracting. I’m a scatterbrain, so I try to eliminate anything that can pull me away from focusing on my work.
Thank you, CeeCee, for being the October spotlight! I can’t wait to read your new story 🙂
