March 2012 Author: Alecia

When I’m running late with these spotlights, I can always count on my wonderful friends to step up and help me get things finished! Such is the case this month, as I emailed my friend Alecia at the last possible minute when I realized I had yet to feature her.

Alecia’s writing can be found on her LiveJournal and includes her stories Something To Believe In, its sequel Hearts Breaking Even and a handful of shorter stories.

Why did you start writing hanfic? How long have you been writing?
I actually started writing in 2010 out of sheer boredom. At that time, I was throwing myself into the job search but not coming up with anything. I had read a few stories and figured, “Well hey, I could do this if I wanted”. And so, my first story was born and finished in under two months.

Do you have a favorite brother to write about? Why or why not?
The first story I wrote ended up being a Zac story, (this coming from a lifelong Taylor fan until 2010 when I realized how pretty Zac had gotten! 😀 ) I feel that I can relate to his personality the most and turn him into a believable character. However, I have a couple other stories that have Taylor and Isaac as well. As I get more comfortable writing their characters, I tend to write them in more.

What are your favorite hanfic stories and authors?
I’m not always an avid story reader, but I have a few websites I like to keep up with, including, Feel This Way, A Million Contradictions and of course, A Place To Hide!! 🙂

What is your writing process like?
My writing process is pretty non-exsistent. It either involves me sitting down in front of the computer and staring at the blank screen till something clicks or I’ll have random ideas throughout the entire day and come home with bits and pieces of stories on scraps of paper.

Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?
My ideas come from everyday life. Sometimes, I see something or someone and realize that it could be a story or part of one. When I’m writing, pretty much everything is fair game.

Which stories are you most proud of having written?
I’m my own worst critic, so I can’t say I’m entirely proud of ANY of my stories! But I’ve got a mini series that I’ve been working on, on & off, since the end of 2011 that I’ve yet to post anywhere. That is one I can say that I actually had a lot of fun writing.

Favorite songs to listen to while you write or which inspire your writing?
Anything but the people I’m writing about! I’ve always been more of a rock and roll kind of girl, so I usually stick with that. Both of my longer stories have been inspired by Bon Jovi songs though. (Favorite band EVER!)

Thank you, Alecia, for being the March spotlight! I’m so sad I won’t get to see you again at the MOE in May 🙁
