December 2011 Author: Amanda W.

For this month, I’m featuring an author who not only writes hanfic, but is soon to be a published author of original fiction. What a great thing to have accomplished!

If you’re interested in reading Amanda W.’s hanfic, you can do so at her LiveJournal, located here. She writes all genres, and I recommend checking out her stories Breaking Free and Collide.

Why did you start writing hanfic? How long have you been writing?
It really started because my friend and I had these wild imaginations and fantasies about meeting Hanson so we started writing it down. We didn’t even know that it was a real thing called fanfiction. I’ve been writing 20+ years now and I can’t stop no matter how long of a hiatus I go on; I just keep coming back to it.

I know you’re an Adam Lambert fan, too. How is that fandom different from Hanson?
I think the biggest difference is the love. In the Hanson fandom, there’s this clash between the people who write slash and the people who write het. I write both, so I kinda try to keep my head down and stay out of that rift. But there’s definitely a compassion that isn’t always found in the Hanson community. You can find it on one side or the other, but there’s not a meshing of the two worlds and that’s just sad to me.

What are your favorite hanfic stories and authors?
Firstly, who can answer this question without mentioning Devil Angel? lol. But right now I’m really into a Zaylor story called “And I Waited” by Sarah (aka forgottenhall on lj). Most of my favorite authors have stopped writing though, so I’ve got to go check out some new people.

What is your writing process like?
Mostly, I come up with one central idea, some kind of scene that I want to happen. After I know the scene and which brother(s) I’m going to use, I just start writing the story. I basically write blindly, I don’t plot.

Where do your ideas and inspiration come from?
Ideas and inspiration can come from anywhere for me, a song, a TV show or maybe even something I’ve read. I sometimes even get inspired by things that have happened in the brothers’ life. There’s really know telling where / when a story will just pop up and hit you in the face.

Which stories are you most proud of having written?
Oh wow, I’m not sure. I think the ones that make me most proud are the ones I actually have finished; that have an ending. No matter if I like the story or not when it’s all over, I’m just proud that I’ve finished something, that it’s a complete story.

Favorite songs to listen to while you write or which inspire your writing?
To be honest, I don’t listen to music while I write. I usually just have the TV on because music tends to distract me. As for songs that inspire my writing? Just about anything with a good storyline or emotion to it can inspire me. Anyone from Taylor Swift to Adam Lambert to Good Charlotte, and obviously Hanson.

Thank you, Amanda W., for being this month’s spotlight. Congratulations on getting published! 🙂
