In any fandom, you’re going to find that people use some strange words that you probably aren’t familiar with. There are words that all of fandom uses (which have been compiled into many glossaries you can find with a quick google search), and then there are words that are pretty unique to the Hanson fandom. I’ve compiled a list of some of the most common of these to help you figure out what we’re talking about, whether we’re talking about the fic, the band or whatever.

3CG — Abbreviation for 3 Car Garage, which may refer to the album of demo songs released in 1998 or the record label opened in 2003.

AITP — Alone In The Pretense. Brittney’s domain, which can be found here. It now hosts only her fic; some of her previous hostees have moved to PTH.

BTTI — Abbreviation for Back To The Island, the yearly fan club event held in Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico.

DA — Devil Angel, one of the most popular hanfics of all time. It’s an unfinished crossover featuring Hanson and the Moffatts, and was one of the first stories to slash Taylor/Scott and Zac/Dave. Can be read here.

DAE — Devil Angel Egroup. A group, created on E-groups and then absorbed into Yahoo Groups, for fans of Devil Angel. Seemed to speak a language of their own. Can be found here.

fanson — Refers to a Hanson fan. Portmanteau of “fan” and “Hanson.” Many fans don’t care for this term, and some claim the band themselves don’t either.

FIC — Confusingly and amusingly, this is the abbreviation for the album Finally It’s Christmas.

FTBP — Abbreviation for the EP Facing The Blank Page.

han- — Prefix that can be added to damn near anything to make it refer to Hanson.

hancest — Portmanteau of “Hanson” and “incest.” Refers to stories about incestuous relationships between the boys. Obviously, not everyone’s cup of tea. Often shortened to just “cest.”

hanfic — Portmanteau of “Hanson” and “fanfic” (itself being short for fan fiction). Obviously, refers to Hanson fanfic.

hanficml — Hanfic Mailing List. A very popular Egroup/Yahoo Group where writers could submit their stories for feedback. Began in 2000, was largely abandoned by 2003. Can be found here.

haylor — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Harry Styles of One Direction.

HF.c — HansonFiction.com, the biggest and most famous hanfic domain, which hosted some of the most popular authors and stories. Closed in December 2009.

HITZ, ITZ — Two very similar abbreviations used to refer to the band. HITZ stands for Hanson: Isaac, Taylor, and Zac, while ITZ, obviously, stands for Isaac, Taylor and Zac.

HITZJAMZ — An abbreviation that refers to the entire family — Hanson: Isaac, Taylor, Zac, Jessica, Avery, Mackenzie, Zoe.

INAP — I’m Not A Playa (I Just Crush A Lot). A popular (and infamously sexually explicit) hanfic from the early days of the fandom. Can be read here.

ITB — Abbreviation for the EP Inside the Box.

JAMZ — An abbreviation that refers to the other four Hanson children (Jessica, Avery, Mackenzie, Zoe).

jeylor — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and actor Jesse Spencer.

JSOR — Just Shy of Reality, a popular message board for hanfic. Now closed. Archived version can be found here.

L&E — Abbreviation for the Live and Electric tour and album.

LFA — Abbreviation for Live From Albertane, the 1998 tour album.

LP — Abbreviation for the 2016 EPs, Loud and Play. A play on the term “long play,” which refers to a full length album.

MMFH — Abbreviation for the EP Music Made For Humans.

moffson — Sort of like a pairing name. Refers to fic featuring both Hanson and The Moffatts. Usually slash.

MON — Abbreviation for Middle of Nowhere, Hanson’s first album.

MONA — — Abbreviation for Middle of Nowhere Acoustic, the ten year anniversary re-release.

naylor — Pairing name for Natalie and Taylor.

nike — Pairing name for Nikki and Ike.

NSFB — Abbreviation for the EP No Sleep For Banditos.

Old Man Hanson — Nickname for Isaac, coined by the man himself when he kicked a guy out of a concert (which happened to be on his own 30th birthday). Sometimes just “Old Man” or “Old Man Badass.”

PTH — The site you are currently visiting.

RNR — Abbreviation for the EP Roots and Rock n Roll.

RTA — Abbreviation for Road To Albertane, the 1998 tour documentary.

scottay — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Scott Moffatt.

SETB — Abbreviation for the documentary Strong Enough To Break.

SI — Abbreviation for the Christmas album Snowed In.

SIO — Abbreviation for the album Shout It Out.

SOL — Abbreviation for the EP Sound of Light.

SUSU — Abbreviation for the EP Stand Up Stand Up.

talex, taylex — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Alex Greenwald.

tarrick — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Carrick Moore Gerety.

tate — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Kate.

tikki — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Nikki.

THan — nickname for Taylor.

tike — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Ike.

TJJT — Pairing abbreviation, refers to stories about Taylor and Tommy Joe Ratliff.

touis — Pairing name, refers to stories about Taylor and Louis Tomlinson of One Direction.

TTA — Abbreviation for the album This Time Around.

TTMON — Abbreviation for Tulsa, Tokyo and the Middle of Nowhere, Hanson’s first documentary.

TTW — Abbreviation for Taking The Walk, the podcast and book/EP.

TW — Abbreviation for the album The Walk.

VA — Various Artists. Originally called Kim’s Stories and Links when it opened in August 1997, it was renamed Various Artists when it moved to HF.c. In addition to a link directory, it also hosted a forum, awards and writing challenges. The forums remain here.

zalex — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Alex Greenwald.

zarrick — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Carrick Moore Gerety.

zarry — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Harry Styles of One Direction.

zatalie — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Natalie.

zate, ZK — Pairing name and abbreviation for Zac and Kate. ZK is more commonly used.

zave — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Dave Moffatt.

zavery — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Avery.

zaylick Pairing name, refers to stories featuring the threesome of Zac, Taylor and Carrick.

zaylor — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Taylor. In the early days, was also called “TZ” or “T+Z.”

ZHan — nickname for Zac.

zike — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Ike.

zikki — Pairing name, refers to stories about Zac and Nikki.
